โฆ Synopsis
Bulk polymerization of styrene with oligododecandioyl peroxide (ODDP) was studied and the overall rate constant, k, was found as 8.4. lo-' at 60ยฐC and 5.1 I 10e4 (l/mol)'~*sec-' at 80ยฐC. Active polystyrene containing peroxy groups (0.93 wt%) was obtained by the polymerization of styrene with ODDP at 60ยฐC. At the same concentration of the oligoperoxide and at 80ยฐC the peroxygen content of the active polystyrene was 0.64 wt%. 1: 1 mixture of active polystyrene and polybutadiene gave graft copolymers with some homopolymers at 92ยฐC. Graft copolymers were purified by fractional precipitation and then characterized by i.r. NMR and g.p.c.

The graft copolymer of high-impact polystyrene (HIPS) grafted with maleic anhydride (MA) (HIPS-g-MA) was prepared with melt mixing in the presence of a free-radical initiator. The grafting reaction was confirmed by infrared analyses, and the amount of MA grafted on HIPS was evaluated by a titration
## Abstract The emulsion polymerization of styrene, activated by microwave irradiation and conductive heating, was modeled using the EMULPOLY^ยฎ^ simulation package of the University of Waterloo. Microwaveโactivated initiation was modeled as adding a hypothetical second initiator. The kinetic rate c
Butyl acrylate was graft copolymerized onto gelatin using ceric ammonium nitrate as redox initiator. A series of grafted products with various gelatin-to-butyl acrylate ratios were prepared. The molecular weight of the grafted side chains and the number of grafting sites were measured. The possible
