The kinetics a n d mechanism of cure o f rrsi 11 -bastd rtsstora t i vc, ma trrials h a w h e m investigated b! , incorporating into commrrcial m , i t l n i l s additional amounts o f inhihitcbr, initiator, a n d accelerator. The pnIymc*rization was monitored by IR spectroscopy, viscosity measurements, and a n oscillating rlicometer. The rrite o f initiation o f the polymeri/.,ltion was found to be first order with rc'spcct to the initiator and ac-celerator conccntration. The inhihitor was found to bL) rc.sponsiblr for the induction period during which n o polymerization uccurr1.d. Thc duration o f this period was proportional t o thi. inhibitcbr concrntration. I t was also found that the efficiency of the inhibitor affected the diffcrence hetween the initial and final set times so that with o n e particularly effectivr inhibitor a "snap-srt" behavior could be obtained.

The polymerization kinetics of photocurable compositions based on an epoxyacrylate oligomer and three analogous diacrylate monomers were investigated. The effects of the oligomer-to-monomer ratio, curing conditions, and monomer structure were considered. The polymerization is characterized by a syne
