Poly(ethylene glycol), which has a negligible carbon yield upon pyrolysis, was used as a template to study the controlled formation of mesoporosity in pyrolytic carbons. A series of carbons was produced from mixtures of poly(ethylene glycol) and poly(furfuryl alcohol) with 25, 50 and 75% composition
