The gel of poly(vinyl alcohol) polymer with boric acid, added as a crosslinking agent, was made with a mixture of dimethyl sulfoxide and water. The thermal and dynamic modulus properties of poly(vinyl alcohol) gel were measured by a differential scanning calorimeter and a dynamic mechanical thermoan

β¦ Synopsis
The polyelectrolyte behaviour of poly(viny1 alcohol)-boric acid complexes is investigated. A plateau is observed in the dependence of pK, on the degree of neutralization, while the HENDERSON-HASSELBACH plots show two linear regions with different slope related to two different macroconformations. The complexes undergo a transition to an extended rigid conformation when neutralized in aqueous solution determined by decreased flexibility of the chain and charge acquisition.

The effect of the dissolved state of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) molecules in water on the color development due to PVA-iodine complexes was investigated at each given PVA and iodine concentration using two kinds of syndiotactic-rich PVA (S-PVA) which are unstable in water because of the formation of
Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) was converted into melt flowable derivatives by complexation with a small amount of n-butyl boronic acid (BBA) and phenyl boronic acid (PBA) in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO), and their thermal properties were examined from a viewpoint of the melt spinning of the complexes. It wa
The extent of colour development in an aqueous poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)Γiodine complex solution increased with increasing syndiotacticity up to a certain syndiotactic content, then decreased with increasing syndiotacticity. The complex formation depended on the content of the syndiotactic pentad se
The miscibility of poly(viny1 alcohol) (PVA) and poly(styrenesu1fonic acid) (PSSA) in dilute aqueous solutions was studied by a viscosimetric method. At a constant molecular weight of PSSA, it was found that the miscibility of both polymers increases with the molecular weight and the number of aceta
The swelling behavior of interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) composed of poly(viny1 alcohol) (PVA) and poly(acry1ic acid) (PAA) in water was studied. The PVA/ PAA IPN gels were prepared by four synthetic methods. The swelling behaviors of these IPNs made by different methods were compared. The
