✦ Synopsis

Novel polydimethylsiloxanes (PDMS) bearing vinyl ethers end-groups were tested as wetting agents in representative compositions curable by cationic cross-linking polymerization. The influence of the silicone additives introduced at various concentrations (0.1-5 wt%) was examined by the contact angle method. Th.e measurements performed with various solid substrates (aluminum, cellophane, glass, polyethyleneterephtalate) indicated that at comparable concentrations, the silicone additives induce better or similar wetting effects than conventional fluorinated surfactants. The silicone polymers were shown to be less efficient for wetting steel and polypropylene. Decreasing the molecular weight of the silicone additives allowed to improve their wetting ability. The vinyl ether terminated PDMS thus reveal as a novel class of efficient wetting agents that can be permanently included in the network upon copolymerization of epoxy-vinyl ether compositions.

Novel polydimethylsiloxanes (PDMS) bearing vinyl ethers end-groups were prepared by coupling the Si-H functions of telechelic PDMS with triethyleneglycol divinyl ether (DVE-3) or with 1,4-bis(vinyloxymethyl)cyclohexane (CHVE). The conditions of this Pt-catalysed hydrosilylation reaction were adjuste
