โฆ Synopsis
Methods have been described for the synthesis of derivatives of itaconic acid in which the groups attached to the carboxyl functions are different. A series of mixed esters with alkane sidechains of various length have been prepared from monomethyl itaconate as a precursor and some of the properties of the polymers made from these mixed esters have been measured. To the first approximation, the plasticizing effect of the side chains, resulting in changes in the glass transition temperature (Tg), is proportional to the total number of carbon atoms in both side chains

A two-step process for lactic acid polymerization is studied: in the first step the lactic acid is condensation-polymerized to a low-molecular-weight hydroxylterminated prepolymer; and then the molecular weight is raised by joining prepolymer chains together using diisocyanate as the chain extender.
## Abstract In this work, two kinds of diacid monomers were synthesized by a convenient scheme, where 4โhydroxyโ3โmethoxybenzoic acid (vanillic acid) or 4โhydroxyโ3,5โdimethoxybenzoic acid (syringic acid) directly condensated with succinic chloride. Corresponding polyanhydrides were obtained by mel
