Currently waste and emission prevention projects with excellent and promising results are carried out within laboratories and offices of Utrecht University in The Netherlands. This short paper will focus on how these projects evolved and their results. In particular it will discuss the pilot project on pollution prevention in research laboratories, the method, results and solutions. Furthermore the impact and role of these pilot projects to reach long-term environmental care and sustainable development will be discussed.
