โœฆ Synopsis

The development of a scientific publication requires that from time to time a comprehensive evaluation of that publication's policies and procedures must be made. As General Editor for the Journal of Clinical Ultrasound, I have undertaken this task with the invaluable assistance of members of our Editorial Board. From this review I have concluded that there are a number of changes in the Journal format and review process that should be made if the Journal is to continue its role as a leader in the international community of medical ultrasound. The following is a list of these changes, which will be made immediately or in the very near future.

Journal Format 1. The Journal is introducing a new "Pictorial

Essay" category to allow publication of manuscripts that illustrate with images what is seen in specific areas.

2. The Journal is introducing a new "Guest

Commentary" section, which will present editorials, opinions, and short reviews on selected topics in different ultrasound areas.

The individuals offered this opportunity by the General Editor will be selected from those nominated by the Area Editors. 3. The Journal has a special interest in manuscripts concerned with the therapeutic use of ultrasound in clinical medicine (e.g. lithotripsy) and specifically solicits such manuscripts. 4. The Journal will publish a limited number of color images without charge in manuscripts considered especially important by the General Editor.
