โœฆ Synopsis

Abstract

Polarized Raman spectra of single crystals of KIO~4~ and RbIO~4~ were obtained. The observed fundamental modes satisfy the selection rules valid for the scheelite structure. The pressure dependence of the Raman spectra of KIO~4~, which was investigated up to 12 Gpa, reveals a structural phase transition in the crystal near 6.5 GPa, where new peaks are observed. Above 9.8 GPa only the peaks belonging to the highโ€pressure phase exist.

The low-temperature form of K 3 Sm(PO 4 ) 2 crystallizes in the glaserite type. The Raman and infrared spectra have been investigated: they are consistent with the proposed space monoclinic system [a = 7.4347(5) A หš, b = 5.6270(5) A หš, c = 9.4919(5) A หš, ฮฒ = 90.870(6)ยฐ, Z = 2, space group P2 1 /m].
