โœฆ Synopsis

Polarization measurements of solar X-ray events that were obtained with an instrument on OSO-7 are presented. The results appear to be consistent with the results of Tindo et aL on the existence and magnitudes of polarization. A comparison with polarization predictions when X-rays are produced by radial beams of electrons gives two examples of deviations from such a model.

The polarization of hard solar X-radiation (> l0 keV) is calculated on the assumption that electrons get a non-isotropic velocity distribution in the initial phase of a flare. The bremsstrahlung generated by nonthermal electrons spiralling around magnetic field lines with discrete pitch angles is co

Observations of solar active regions by a grazing incidence X-ray telescope on board OSO-5 are reported. The evolution of the hot, coronal components of active regions have been studied during successive rotations across the solar disc. In particular, it is found that the X-ray emission is very depe

The solar X-ray experiment on the satellite OSO-7 has provided extensive observations of hard and soft X-ray bursts. We give a general description of the hard X-ray data here, in parallel with the description of the soft X-ray data already published . The data for this study consist of 123 hard X-ra

The UCSD solar X-ray instrument on the OSO-7 satellite observes 3[-ray bursts in the 2-300 keV range with 10.24 s time resolution. Spectra obtained from the proportional counter and scintillation counter are analyzed for the event of November 16, 1971, at 0519 UT in terms of thermal (exponential spe
