✦ Synopsis

Abstract

We report the design and fabrication of Bragg gratings in benzocyclobutene (BCB) channel waveguides with emphasis on the demonstration of their polarization dependence. The effects of the stress‐induced birefringence in the waveguide on the polarization dependence of the Bragg gratings are characterized and discussed. Our results show the possibility of realizing tunable polarization‐insensitive Bragg‐grating filters with simple polymer waveguide structures. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
