## A simple and efficient variable optical attenuator (VOA) is achieved by using microbend gratings on single-mode fiber (SMF). The flatness of the attenuator is maintained for 100 nm along the CΟ©L band spectrum. Controlling the pressure will vary the attenuation depth of the device.
The underlying formation mechanisms and the properties of long-period gratings produced through arc discharges are intrinsically related to the temperature reached by the fibre during arc exposure. In this work, the determination of the fibre temperature was based on PlankΓs blackbody radiation law.
