β¦ Synopsis
It is shown that the signals from a high-Z scintillating crystal (BSO) can be separated into a scintillation and a Cherenkov component, by making use of the fact that the latter component is polarized. These studies were carried out in view of the possible application of such crystals in dual-readout calorimeters.
