Abstract
A polarimetric method was used to measure the differential group delay and ripple of chirped Bragg gratings. The results were compared to the phase‐shift technique and it was verified that the polarimetric method does not suffer the resolution limitations inherent to the modulation phase shift method. The birefringence of the fiber on which the grating was written is the responsible for the measured PMD, indicating that the birefringence induced by writing process is negligible. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
