✦ Synopsis
Electron microscopy study of crushed m ؍ 7 MPTB p single crystals has been performed. In agreement with the X-ray diffraction structural results, these crystals exhibit a monoclinic symmetry and P2 1 /n space group. It was shown that whereas some single crystals appear very regular, others exhibit intergrowth defects with other members of the MPTB p family or with MPTB h slabs, which may badly influence electron transport behavior.

In this paper we present the study of the acoustic phonons propagating in Er 3+ -doped KGd(WO 4 ) 2 single crystals by Brillouin spectroscopy. For the investigated crystals the velocities of the longitudinal and transverse acoustic phonons [100], [010], [001], [101] and [110] have been determined. M
