Case report
A 58-year-old man received a cadaveric renal transplant in September 1978 following chronic renal failure secondary to chronic pyelonephritis. The kidney functioned well and a stable creatinine of around 200p mol/l was maintained on standard immunosuppressive doses of prednisolone and azathroprine. During the second postoperative month, however, he developed a Klebsiella aerogenes urinary tract infection which did not respond to appropriate antibiotics.
