✦ Synopsis

  1. A case of sudden unexpected death due to rare cervicooccipital dysplasia is presented. 2. At postmortem examination of cases of sudden death without a definite cause of death the finding of a deformed base of the skull should suggest removal and mazeration of the upper cervical vertebral column for close scrutiny.

This study reports the sudden death of a 52-year-old man during hard physical work. Necropsy and histology revealed malignant papillomas of the hypopharynx. The frequency of laryngeal tumors is also discussed.
