β¦ Synopsis
As part of a collaborative study of sibships containing two or more members suffering from bipolar disorder as defined by DSM IV, we have examined age of onset in a preliminary sample of 109 siblings (58 female and 51 males) and 47 sibships. Age of onset between siblings is correlated (.361, P β«Χ‘β¬ .01). Regression analysis shows that age of onset in one sib partially predicts age of onset in the other. We are also examining other clinical indices including course of illness as indicated by frequency and type of episode and measures of affective and psychotic symptoms.
