Readily available data on turbulent transfer in plate heat exchangers can be correlated by a heat transfer-energy dissipation analogy: N~ 3 e g,~Pr,Vi) = C 3(fRe ) in which the Nusselt number modified for changes in the Prandtl number and bulk to wall viscosity ratio Vi is related to the friction fa

A variety of heat exchangers constructed using polymers are available. They can offer good corrosion resistance, and in some cases cost benefits. This paper discusses the types and properties of polymer materials available, types of heat exchangers in which they are used, and possible future trends.

The sea-water samples used had a chlorinity of 16 and were obtained from the Firth of Clyde near the entrance to Loch Long. Their surface tension at IOWC was found to be 58.7 dyn/cm, as compared with 71.8 dyn/cm for a sample of freshwater. The freshwater used for comparison was Glasgow City water.
