## Abstract The stress‐strain curves and the defect structure of corundum single crystals (sapphire and ruby) were studied. The influence of impurity (Cr) presence, crystallographic orientation, temperature, and deformation rate was investigated. Chromium makes corundum harder and causes a yield po
