โœฆ Synopsis

Electromagnetic considerations suggest that plasmon waveguiding is well suited to fluorescence sensing due to its high field strength at the metaldielectric interface and that dielectric waveguiding is better suited to long interaction length sensing, wavegnided routing and signal pre-processing. A structure is suggested that would combine the merits of both concepts.

## Abstract Nonradiative dielectric waveguides employing metamaterial media are studied with the aim of obtaining unimodal surfaceโ€wave propagation for the operating lowโ€loss LSM~01~ mode. Homogeneous isotropic __ฮต__โ€negative media are considered, with a plasmaโ€like frequencyโ€dependent relative per
