## Background: The plasminogen activator system plays an important role in different malignant tumors. these enzymes participate in the destruction of intercellular matrices and basement membranes and/or can modulate the growth potency of tumor cells and may even promote metastases. in this study,

β¦ Synopsis
Plasminogen activator (PA) and PA inhibitor (PAI) were measured in homogenates of leukemia cells. Both PA and PA1 levels were higher in non-lymphobiastic leukemia than in lymphobiastic leukemia. The levels were below the sensitivity of determination in chronic myeiocytic leukemia (CML) but showed significant increases in blast crisis (CML,bc). The level of the tissue type PA (t-PA) antigen was highest in acute myelobiastic leukemia (AML) and that of the urokinase type PA (u-PA) was highest in acute promyeiocytic leukemia (APL). The PAM antigen showed no marked cell specificity, but the PAI-ii antigen was markedly increased in myelomonocytic leukemia and acute monocytic leukemia (AMoL). From these findings, various PAS and PAis are considered to be present in leukemia cells and to be involved in hemostatic disorders, thus they are of diagnostic value in leukemia.

Urokinase plasminogen activator (u-PA) and its fast acting type-1 inhibitor (PAI-1) localize to cellular focal adhesive structures and the ajoining proximal undersurface region, respectively (Kutz et al., J. In the normal heart, cardiomyocytes are surrounded by extracellular matrix (ECM) and latent matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), which are produced primarily by cardiac fibroblasts. An activator of latent MMPs might be induced by ischemic conditions or pressure-induced stretching. To test the hypothesi
