โฆ Synopsis
t comprehensive modelJbr the planning and design qf mulli-storel' buildings is presented, the purpose of which is to provide #formation that will direet the building planner towards" an optimum design co#7)qguration. The model considers the building as an integrated system composed o/" various subs.rstems. It allows the planner to study the consequences of sub-srstem design changes .lot the building as a whole.
The key architectural decis'ions such as overall building dimen.qons, floor to floor lieights and floor s'ystem depths, column spacing, and core location are fed in as data to a building design program. Where it has been possible to do so, lower level decisions are optimized within the context ~' this ker deeision set. Where optimizatio#t is not possible, at least an estimate of the cost q/ the subsystem is made.
The building design is" assessed using a discounted cash flow ana@s'Ls. All costs and benefits are #'educed to their "present worth" #1 ordcr to provMe a direct basis for comparison. Subo, stem design optimization also uses estimates of the present worth of the design as an objective or merit function.
