✦ Synopsis

Fields scattered by a lossy dielectric wedge for a plane-wa¨e incidence are calculated. Reflected and refracted fields are obtained by inhomogeneous plane-wa¨e tracing in a lossy medium, while the edgediffracted fields of the physical-optics approximation are accurately corrected by adding the multipole line sources at the edge of the wedge to satisfy the extinction theorem. This solution pro¨ides accurate numerical results for the scattered fields when the loss tangent of the wedge medium is less than about 10, which is guaranteed by the smallness of the extinction integral.

In this paper, electromagnetic plane wave scattering by a gap on a ground plane is analyzed. ## Abstract Anti‐plane‐strain model for steady‐state scattering of elastic waves by a rough inclusion or a cavity embedded in a half space is considered by using a direct boundary integral equation method. The roughness of the scatterer is assumed to be periodic with arbitrary amplitude and period.
