Abstract
By folding a planar monopole made of a copper plate, into a rectangular‐disk‐like structure, a low‐cost surface‐mountable antenna suitable for applications in WLAN (2400–2484 MHz) and HIPERLAN (5150–5350 MHz) systems is proposed. The antenna has compact dimensions of 12 × 8 × 3 mm^3^, is easy to construct, and can also be easily fed with the use of a 50‐Ω microstrip line. Details of the antenna design and the experimental results for the proposed antenna mounted on a microwave substrate are presented. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
