โฆ Synopsis
A randomized double-blind placebotontrolled trial was carried out to assess the effectiveness, tolerance and unwanted effects of paroxetine in the treatment of depressive illness. Forty-one patients referred to a psychiatric unit in a general hospital were included in the study. Treatment lasted for six weeks. The main outcome measures were changes in scores on the Hamilton rating scale for depression and Leeds self-assessment of 'Depression Specific' scale. Statistically significant improvements occurred in both treatment groups, while the end-point differences in scores show significant advantages of paroxetine over placebo.
