This invention relates to a seal assembly and method for sealing two housing parts together, such as an engine block and an oil pan. The two components to be sealed have a profiled groove section that receives a V-section seal. After assembly of the seal a strip member insert is clipped into the hollow of the V to energize and retain the seal.
