A blood-mimicking fluid (BMF) suitable for use in Doppler flow test objects is described and characterised. The BMF consists of 5 microns diameter nylon scattering particles suspended in a fluid base of water, glycerol, dextran and surfactant. The acoustical properties of various BMF preparations we

โฆ Synopsis
For few years, new electronic and acoustic technology has allowed the development of probes for gastro-intestinal endoscopic ultrasonography. This has been demonstrated as a valuable method to assess lesions from oesophagus, stomach, liver and pancreas.
However the principal limitations were the concomment use of ,addiig endoscopy, the unability to perform Color Coded Doppler and the presence of some artefacts in the surrounding tissue.
The purpose of the present development was to achieve a new endoeesophageal probe which could be co~ected to a routinely used machine. This implies that this could be used without endoscopy. This uses a linear probe (8 mm in diameter) with an 'ultrasound frequency of 7 MHz in echotomography (typical axial resolution of 200 pm) and an ultrasound frequency of 5 MHz in color cc&d Doppler. The active ultrasound part can be angulated in tight/leg and up/down positions up to 90'. A water in&ted balloon is disponible around the probe. The first images obtained in vivo from cesophagus, liver and pancreas were considered as valuable for the clinicians.
Because of the small diameter, the absence of concontment endoscopy and the availability of Doppler imaging, this probe which could be connected to a routinely used machine has some promising applications and could increase the indications for this type of examination.
