✦ Synopsis
When Angel arrives in Aylmer’s East Elgin Secondary School, nobody knows what to make of the immediate enigma. With pink skin, white hair, yellow irises, and subtly pointed ears and teeth, she is the talk of the school, and the entire student body can’t help but want to know more about her. However, Angel’s disconnect and airy, quirky dismissal of anything and everything that doesn’t entertain her makes it impossible to approach her on a meaningful level. This makes her sudden fixation on “Gal” Memoir, the aloof and perceived delinquent of the school, even more baffling…particularly to Gal herself.
Upon her mother walking out of her life and left with an emotionally devastated father, Gal has retreated to drugs and meaningless sex to muffle her own ability to feel. Yet, with Angel’s sudden appearance, a spell is seemingly cast on Gal that she can’t and doesn’t want to escape from. As the two girls become closer and closer, Angel’s only stipulation for their growing relationship is that Gal does not fall in love with her lest she wish to die.
With an abrupt string of murders within Aylmer, the mystery surrounding Angel’s true identity, the strained dynamics between Gal and her boyfriend, father, and childhood friend, and Angel’s older sister causing chaos, Gal doesn’t even have time to humour the idea of falling for someone as alien as Angel…right?
