Как и ряд других известных боевых самолетов 30-х гг., Энсон не задумывался с самого начала как военная машина. Это был период бурного развития самолетостроения: концепция свободнонесущего моноплана постепенно становилась общепризнанной и в военной, и в гражданской авиации.
