This report presents the results of chemical tests, using concentrated sulphuric acid, concentrated nitric acid and alcoholic potash, applied to single pigment vehicle respray paints from four different manufacturers. The pigments in these paints had been previously identified using X-ray powder diffraction and infrared techniques. The wide range ofreactions obtained with the chemical tests has enabled tables for major pigment identification to be constructed. Use of these tables enabled correct identification of most of the major pigments in a series of multi-pigment vehicle paints.
