β¦ Synopsis
LiNbO 3 piezoelectric single crystals have small elastic and dielectric losses even in large-amplitude operations. This paper proposes a piezoelectric transformer using a 120150Β° rotated Y-cut LiNbO 3 plate elongated in the z-direction and demonstrates that a compact piezoelectric transformer with a high output-to-input voltage ratio and no saturable characteristics even in high-voltage operation can be obtained without orthogonalizing the poling directions of the input and output sections. It is shown experimentally that the transformer characteristics differ with the polarity of the plate surface on which the output electrode is deposited. The reason for this finding is also discussed qualitatively.
