β¦ Synopsis
SYNOPSIS : A method for analyzing the post yielding piecewise linear load-dvformation characteristics of elastic-perfectly plastic frames is presented. A separation function Ai is employed, allowing the compatibility and equilibrium conditions to be formulated in general terms valid for all the piecewise linear regimes. Although one of the matrices needed for the solution is singular at the collapse load the analysis of the corresponding deformation is made possible by suitable partitioning of the matrices.
The method of analysis is presented in details in terms of a single-story frame. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the application of the procedure to one and two-story frames. The treatment of multi-story and multi-bay frames is also discussed.
