✦ Synopsis

Picric acid P icric acid (trinitrophenol) has a number of laboratory uses, the most common being Bouin's ¯uid, a ®xative used in preparation of tissues for histological evaluation. Laboratory hazardous waste managers handle excess picric acid and wastes containing picric acid with caution because of its chemical properties. In this column, we will brie¯y review the potential hazards associated with picric acid and waste minimization considerations.
