β¦ Synopsis
Light emission as a functicn of time is displayed on film with picosecond resolution. Transient stimulated Raman scattering and stimulated dye emission using 530 rnp picosecond pump pulses have been measured. Recently we demonstrated a cross-heam technique to observe the time-resolved transmission of a "bleached" dye on a picosecond scale [l]* In this letter we discuss a cross-beam technique to observe time-resolved stimulated emission on a picosecond scale. Light pulses from a modelocked neodymium: glass laser were used both to stimulate the emission and operate the light gate, enabling us to photograph the time evolution in a single laser shot. Our measurements indicate that the duration of the Stokes Raman stimulated light pulse is less than or equal to that of the pumping 530 mu 1.5 picosecond light pulse, while the stimulated dye emission pulses are somewhat longer. A Q-switched mode-locked Brewster-angleneodymium: glass laser emits a train of 1.06p picosecond light pulses polarized perpendicular to the plane of fig. 1. These pulses generate 530 mp light pulses in a phase-matched KDP crystal.
