✦ Synopsis
Some results of the mvestlgatlon of the physlcochemlcal propertles of aqueous solutions of the synthetic surfactant sodmm dodecyl sulfate (SDS) together with each of the two surfactants obtamed from asslmllating processes. sophorose lipld or rhamnose hpld. in the concentration range that mvolvea mlcelle formatlon, are presented and dlscussed In this paper. The measurements of the solubilitles, surface tenslons, conductlvitles. pH values, and enthalpies of diluted mixtures of these solutions at 25 'C were evaluated for this purpose. An improved method usmg a concentration gradlent IS proposed for precise conductlvlty and calorlmetrlc measurements m the Row condltlons. The mathematical model for the descrlptlon obtained from these experlmental data was addltlonally developed. The results reveal that the low solublhty of glycohplds m water may be considerably Improved m the presence of SDS. The observed concentration dependence of all studied propertles. suggest that formation of mlved mlcelles conslstmg of SDS and glycohpld monomer5 may occur This aggregation takes place at a concentration of about one order of magnitude lower than the crltical mlcelle concentration of SDS alone. The surfactant mixtures m solution exhibit non-ideal beha\lour
