## Abstract The type species of the genus __Prolecanites__ is discussed. The generic name __Paraprolecanites__ Karpinsky 1889 is invalid, being founded on a hypothetical suture line. Forms showing this type of suture line have since been found and the genus __Epicanites__ was erected by Schindewolf
