โฆ Synopsis
Polymers which can liberate 4'-acetobenzo-15-crown-5 or 4'-acetobenzo-18-crown-6 on u.v. irradiation have been synthesized. The quantum yield (q~) for the photoliberation of crown ethers from the polymers was 0.19 for 313 nm in air. The @ value was independent of the ring size of crown ether units in the polymer. Complexes of the polymers with alkali metal picrates (PiM) gave yellow clear films. The release of PiM from the polymer matrix was caused by photochemically liberated crown ethers acting as carriers in the polymer matrix. The efficiency of PiM release from one polymer was dependent on the counter cation of the picrate anion and decreased in the order Na + ~ K + ~ NH~-> Rb + > Cs+: no significant dependence of efficiency of PiM release from another polymer on cation was observed.
