✦ Synopsis
The dimeric Rh(I) complex, Rh,(PNP)$+ (where PNP= CH,N [ P(OCH,),],). adopts a flexible "basket" type structure. The solid state phosphorescence from the (C6H&B-salts of the dimeric complex (two crystallographic forms) indicates a thermally activated conformational change in the triplet excited state. The change appears to be driven by Rh-Rh bond formation in the excited state and permitted by relatively weak crystal packing forces.
