✦ Synopsis


The Norrish type II photoscission has been investigated for valerophenone, butyrophenone, polyvinylphenylketone and dimer compounds. Rate constants for bimolecular quen~ling, lifetimes ot the triplet state, biradical lifetimes and transient spectra have been measured by laser spectroscopy. Stern Volmer coefficients and photoscission quantum yields have been obtained from steady state experiments. The results are discussed in relation to some important chemical and physical parameters such as steric and electronic effects of substituents, energy migation and conformation of molecules and macromolecules in solution.
