โฆ Synopsis
Photon-assisted macroscopic quantum tunneling in a slightly current-biased Josephson junction with a small capacitance and a low damping factor is proposed to occur between the quantized energy levels in adjacent potential wells by photon absorption or emission. The tunneling rate is calculated by the harmonic potential approximation of the wells. Voltage spikes appear in the superconducting branch of the I-V characteristics due to phase slippage. The magnitude and the duration of these voltage spikes are also discussed.
