โฆ Synopsis
An electronic spectrum is observed for the heteronuclear metal dimer, AgLi, with resonant two-photon ionization. The dimer is produced in a pulsed supersonic molecular beam by laser vaporization of a silver rod containing lithium as an impurity. The electronic state origin is near 304 nm, where an extensive vibrational progression (~o~ = 247.8 cm-~ ) is observed. 'Hot bands' originating from excited vibrational levels in the ground electronic state allow calculation of the spectroscopic constants for this state (to" = 389.0 cm-~ ). The bonding in AgLi is stronger than that in either Ag2 or Li2.

An electronic spectrum for the van der Waals complex Cu-Kr is observed. This weakly bound system is produced by laser vaporization of a copper sample in a pulsed supersonic molecular beam source, using krypton in the expansion gas. The fragmentation of some alkylamines and their deuterated analogues were investigated by single-and multiphoton ionization. The internal energies of the molecular ions were varied prior to ionization through different expansions in a supersonic beam. Further, it is demonstrated that the difference
