✦ Synopsis

Cross sections for photoionization of molecular anthracenc and for photogeneration in the solid are calculated using approximate wavefunctions and assuming the process to occur by a transition directly into a simple continuum. 'lhe results differ from earlier reported values, are in better agrccmcnt with observed photogeneration efficiencies, and are more nearly consistent with autoionization as the dominant mechanism in both processes.
