✦ Synopsis

Energy flow processes after the photoexcitation of Eu 3+ in aqueous solution is investigated by the time-resolved thermal lens and the photoacoustic methods. Just after the photoexcitation around 590 nm, photoinduced cooling process is observed by the PA and TL methods. The time-resolved TL signal reveals that, after the initial cooling period, it turns to indicate heating with a lifetime of 85 us, which corresponds to the lifetime of the electronically excited state of Eu 3+. The cooling process is discussed.

The photophysical characteristics of the europium (III)-thenoyltrifluoroacetone chelate were studied in a micellar Triton X-100 aqueous solution and in ethanol in correlation with the strong europium-sensitized fluorescence observed in these media. The properties of the chelate and the resulting ion
