β¦ Synopsis
Thrgzs pkue uitmriokr photoekctrcx spectrum of I-tryptophan nzt.s measured with the tie I resomnce line. A careful ehrek ofdecomposition upon a3pomtion 'IS mzde_Tryptophjn was found to be in the neutral form (-COOIf. -_*'Hz) in the gxs phxe_ The photoionintion threshold ux determine" u to be 7.3 2 0-I eV. and 120 peaks were observed at 8.1 eV and 9.7eV. The spectrum eouki be interpreted zs the rwnbin&on of the spectrz~ of indok and aLmine. the constituent parts of rryprophxL Recently-, Debies 3nd Rababis 1 I J and Kkinc [Z] reported the photoetectron sPectr;, of amino acids in the gaseous phase_ However, Kbsinc [Z] reperted that some compounds indudins tryptophan decomposed upon vaporiz3tion_ Resides the importsnce in biological investigation, the mezurement of the gas phase ionization potentiaI of teptophan is interesting from another viewpoint_ Recently there I've been some attempts to determine the energy of excess electrons in condensed media by the comparison between the ionization potenti& of gust molecules in the media and in vacuum [3--61_

The Nls and 01s regions of gaseous N,N-dimethyl-p-nitroaniline have been studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The Nls (-NO\*) peak is z 0.5 eV broader than the Nls (-NH,) peak, indicating the presence of intense, unresolved shake-up. A shake-up peak has been observed in the 01s region at 2.1
The photoelectron spectrum of H2 has been mensured with high resolution. Some individusl rotationnl lines are completely resolved and it has been possible to measure some ionization encrgks with an a~curncy of the snme order of magnitude ns in the best spectroscopic measurements. The rotationnl and
