โœฆ Synopsis

The adsorption ofC0 and CO, on platinum. nickel and copper W;IS studied by X-ray and UV photoelectron spectroscopy. The results indicate that CO, is physisorbcd on p!atinum and copper and 1b:it the bonding: of CO on all tbrce metals involves the metal d-electrons and particularly the 5a lcvcl of CO. It is sqgestcd tbnt tbc cwri;y rcquircd to promote ;1 copper d-electron to an unfilled Icvel above :1x Fermi energy is rcsponsiblc for the sinall heal of adsorption of CO on copper.

LJPS experiments have revealed that CO chemisorbs on polycrystalline gold at 77 K. The specific band structure of gold-deposited nlatinum and the adsorbed state of CO on it have also been investigated.
