Abtract-With the use of a complex method combining the radiotracer technique of "electrode immersion" and the pulse potentiodynamic method we have revealed and investigated a new property of chemisorbed species of the stoichiometric compositiop COH. This property consists in these species being adso

โฆ Synopsis
The adsorption ofC0 and CO, on platinum. nickel and copper W;IS studied by X-ray and UV photoelectron spectroscopy. The results indicate that CO, is physisorbcd on p!atinum and copper and 1b:it the bonding: of CO on all tbrce metals involves the metal d-electrons and particularly the 5a lcvcl of CO. It is sqgestcd tbnt tbc cwri;y rcquircd to promote ;1 copper d-electron to an unfilled Icvel above :1x Fermi energy is rcsponsiblc for the sinall heal of adsorption of CO on copper.
