✦ Synopsis
Additional surface photoprocesses, i.e. water photodissociation in an electrical double layer into H' and OH' radicals and reverse. charge phototransfer from water to metal have been revealed along with the photoelectron injection from the metal into the electrolyte solution (PIMES) on irradiation of a mercury electrode in aqueous NaF solution at wavelength I= 193 nm. The photodissociation quantum yield amounts to 7 x lo-' which gives a lower estimate of the photoabsorption cross-section of water molecules at the interphase of u> 3.5~ lCl-'9 cm*. A possible mechanism of additional photoinduced processes has been discussed. The study of PlMES at 193 nm allowed the determination of the lengths of electron thermalization with energies up to ~,,,=4.9 eV amounting to about 60-80 A.
