The relevant interstate b 3 ⌸, A 1 ⌺ q , c 3 ⌺ q , and B 1 ⌸ spin-orbit induced Ž 2 . Ž 2 . matrix elements, arising from the Na 3 S K 4 P manifold are treated within the full J Ž . microscopic Breit᎐Pauli approximation based on ab initio configuration interaction CI wave functions. The determination of these couplings as a function of the internuclear distance of NaK should permit a full treatment of the fine-structure branching ratio Ž 2 Ž .. Ž 2 Ž .. K* 4 P D rK* 4 P D in manifold-meditated photodissociation and in the 1r2 1 3r2 2 treatment of interstate perturbations.
