Abstract
Photochemical reactions of theophylline with dialkyl and cyclic ethers in the presence of aliphatic ketones result in substitution of the hydrogen atom at Cβ8 position. The results indicate that both the Ξ±βalkoxyalkyl radicals derived by Hβabstraction from ether and the ketyl radicals generated by photoreduction of the ketone are involved in the reactions.
