Abstract

Photochemical reactions of theophylline with dialkyl and cyclic ethers in the presence of aliphatic ketones result in substitution of the hydrogen atom at C‐8 position. The results indicate that both the α‐alkoxyalkyl radicals derived by H‐abstraction from ether and the ketyl radicals generated by photoreduction of the ketone are involved in the reactions.
