โœฆ Synopsis

The photochemistry of ketene adsorbed on Pt( 111) has been studied by illuminating the adsorbate-metal system with UV photons (2 in the range 300-420 nm) and detecting changes in the chemisorbed layer as reflected in the subsequent thermal desorption and SIMS spectra. The photon-induced changes were separated from thermal-and photoelectron-induced effects by employing cutoff filters.

The electrooxidation of CO adsorbate on well ordered Pt(ll1) surfaces is studied through a flow-cell technique. Potentiodynamic sweeps and potential steps are used to characterize the kinetic behaviour of the adsorbate. The effect of surface disturbance when the electrode is cycled into the oxide fo

The formation of methanol adsorbate as a structure sensitive process was studied on platinum single crystal surfaces. The measurements were performed on reproducibly prepared, clean and either well ordered ("undisturbed") or cycled ("disturbed") Pt(100) and Pt(ll1) single crystal electrodes. Essenti

Processes occurring during dosing of ketene on a heated Pt(ll1) surface were investigated using high-resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy and temperature-programmed desorption. During dosing at 400 K, CO and Hz are evolved and ethylidyne accumulates on the surface. In contrast, at 350 K a Cx

The IR cross section and Stark tuning rate of CO on Pt( I 11) versus coverage are measured. (The Stark tuning rate is the variation of vibrational frequency with applied electric field. ) We interpret the observations as coverage-dependent screening of applied static and IR fields at CO's adsorption
